The Lucky Bun

First Impressions

Another afternoon starting with the usual search for food! Due to the siesta 😩😩😩, most of the local restaurants were closed or not yet open for the lunchtime rush.  After walking up and down a few different streets, we came across Lucky Bun, which is situated on a quiet discreet street, not too far from the city centre but easily accessible from the main road. The menu is simple with only about 8 options available, which is handy if you’re indecisive.

Venue & Atmosphere

The setting of the restaurant is pretty basic but fit for purpose –  no extra frills. There are tables and stools throughout the restaurant and the colour palette for the decor is quite neutral. We can imagine that during the evening/night, the dim lights and neutral tones would provide a cosy atmosphere. We arrived around 1pm and met the friendly owner who shared additional details on the menu and our various options.

❀ Food order

CHICKEN BBQ BAOBAO – €10
Bao muffin with chicken meat in Korean barbecue sauce, guacamole, coriander, cashew nuts, sesame, sprouts.

BBQ BURGER €9.50 – Single Patty (180 grams), €14 for Double Patty 360gr.
Beef, bacon, cheese, caramelised onions, tomatoes, pickles, salad, barbecue sauce, lucky salsa, – we swapped the beef for chicken.

Our Thoughts

CHICKEN BBQ BAOBAO
We like these buns and we cannot lie (insert dancing emoji)! They were soo soft, succulent and just down right delicious. The restaurant didn’t have the fried chicken option so we had our boa buns with pulled chicken instead. Pulled chicken sandwiched with coriander – yum! Even though this was hands down mouth-wateringly tasty, we can imagine that the boa served with fried bbq chicken would take it up a whole notch!

BBQ BURGER – Single Patty (180 grams)
This was our first time ordering a medium rare burger  – definitely not something we would usually lean towards.  It was really a mistake because we forgot to mention it when our order was taken and only realised when the burger was sat in front of us. In reality it wasn’t bad, we didn’t see any blood as it was just slightly pink in the middle but the burger……the burger…. was so juicy! Juicy and delicious!

“Normally I mix up ketchup and mayonnaise (sometimes with sweet chilli as well) ready to add to the burger, even before tasting it. However it didn’t even flicker on my radar to add anything, there were so many flavours to enjoy and they complemented each other so well. I cannot say it enough I loved my food, it made my body dance. 👍🏾” ~ Nifesi

“I was a bit apprehensive about the pink inside as I’m well done type of girl.  However, I closed my eyes and went for it – no regrets the burger was full of soo much flavour” ~ Maria

Final Thoughts

The food was on point! The chicken bbq baobab and the bbq chicken burger (can you see the BBQ theme happening her😂👌🏿) was an absolute  party in our mouths. We swallowed it all down in less than 10mins!! We only had a single patty burger (option for 2 available, don’t be greedy) and it was definitely enough! We were both pleasantly full by the end of the meal and the owner was absolutely right, we didn’t need chips. The price was slightly more than what we had seen in nearby restaurants for burgers, however it was definitely worth it! We would absolutely go there again. If  you visit Mallorca, try your best to get to the Lucky Bun, eat a Bao…you won’t be disappointed.
