Our Thoughts

The Woman

We don’t want to give anything away  just in case the play returns to the UK  but the honest truth is that Les Blancs is an amazing play  and a definite must see!

We both independently noticed the eye-catching flyer on the London underground tube adverts and coincidentally mentioned it on the same day to each other – a clear sign that we should go and watch it! After a little research, we checked the availability and booked our tickets via Love Theatre.

This gripping play was written by Lorraine Hansberry and debuted on Broadway in 1970. The National Theatre production was directed by the skilful Yaël Farber, who along with the cast did a wonderful job of portraying the complex issues that were birthed as a result of colonialism.

The storyline is powerful and captivating right from the start  and without giving too much away,  the play is about the revolutionary spirit in Africa during colonial times. Identity, masculinity, power and belonging are some of the key themes throughout the play. The production was simple yet extremely effective.

Our seats were great!! We were located right in the middle of the theatre with a clear view of the whole stage.

Overall experience rating: heartheartheartheartheart
