Gung-Ho

Our Thoughts

We don’t want to say as usual we arrived late, but yes we arrived late – in our defence it  was quite a distance to drive from London. Upon arrival,  we went through the usual process of signing the necessary consent forms. For those that carry a lot of bits and bobs, you will be pleased to know that the Gung-Ho team  provides storage at a cost of £2, which depending on how much you have to store is pretty reasonable – on this occasion  we decided to be frugal as it seemed pointless to pay just for our car keys. Note to Maria and Nifesi: get a waterproof fanny pack.

We didn’t warm up as we arrived late so we just went straight to the start line 👎🏿.
✋🏿  STOP! ✋🏿  Always stretch and warm up or you could cause an unnecessary injury!

There wasn’t much to look at as we ran around the course, aside from grass, more grass and the obstacle ahead. From the few races we have completed, we’ve found that the constant change of scenery (be it through a forest, up a hill, or crossing a number of different paths) really helps to keep us motivated. We also noticed that there were no signs to indicate how far we had run, so this coupled with an open field made the course mentally challenging at times.

We would definitely deem Gung-Ho as a child friendly course as the fun inflatable obstacles are not too challenging. The atmosphere is great as well, lots of cheerful and helpful people. Stewards and assistants were on hand, in case help was needed on obstacles, and trust me on quite a few, we needed their tips on how to manoeuvre and overcome the huge inflatable. If you watch our video you’ll see some of the trials when trying to climb over some walls. All obstacles were undertaken, even though the option to skip was always available – But we ain’t about that life!😎

Yes, Maria kept tripping and Nifesi got a few stitches along the way, in fact there were several, but with the weather being moist, damp and constant drizzle of rain; everything was quite slippery, so we had to take extra care. On a plus side, the queues at obstacles were not excessively long so we completed it relatively quickly.

All in all, it was a fun race, not the most inspiring or challenging but sufficient for a starter course. The summer would be a better time to complete it without rain and mud. Additionally, it would definitely be a good laugh to complete as a larger group – teamwork makes the dream work baby. 😁

Ps. Don’t worry guys, that GoPro purchase is in manifestation! No longer will we struggle with our Iphone, Ipod, Samsung and compact cameras in these challenging conditions. Although it must be noted that the quality so far has not been bad. Don’t you agree?
