First Impressions
The atmosphere and customer service in Clockjack was great! The restaurant is situated on a street just off the busy Piccadilly Circus, making it a less obvious spot to grab a bite to eat. It’s inconspicuous location means that it serves as a great place for a quick meal before heading to one of the nearby theatres or even a great pit-stop after a few hours of central London shopping. It is however, quite a cosy restaurant, therefore accommodating larger groups may be a little challenging without reservations.
Food Order:
Clockjack Pulled BBQ Chicken – £8.95
Brioche bun with coleslaw pickles
Gourmet Fried Chicken Burger – £8.95
Buttermilk marinated chicken in a brioche bun
Sweet Potato Fries – £4.25
5 Clockjack Wings – £5.50
The food was served pretty swiftly and the portion sizes were reasonable.
Our thoughts
We weren’t too keen on the pulled chicken burger, the lukewarm temperature was off putting and made it taste more like a sandwich rather than a burger. Initially we were a bit confused as to whether the burger was supposed to be that temperature but was later reassured by the waitress that it is in fact the coleslaw that makes the burger that way and the meal is how it should be.
We both agree that one of the key elements to making a great burger is the right ratio of meat to bread. However, the bread used for each burger was simply too much, also grilling the bread in order to toast it gave a slight burnt taste to the meal.
The fried chicken burger was better but could have done with a little more sauce. It was pleasant but we wouldn’t reorder.
Although this review sounds more negative then positive, there were actually some really great aspects to our meal. We thoroughly enjoyed the sweet potato fries and the succulent Angry Korean Wings were definitely finger-licking good. The wings were deliciously sweet but also had a kick of spice, a few more pieces with a side of sweet potato fries would have actually made a great meal.
